Woe Be It Unto The Haughty

Link: [Everlast]

What It’s Like
Everlast
We've all seen the man at the liquor store
Beggin' for your change
The hair on his face is dirty
Dreadlocked
And full of mange
He ask the man for what he could spare
With shame in his eyes
Get a job
You f***in' slob's
All he replied

God forbid you ever had to walk
A mile in his shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like
To sing the blues
Then you really might know what it's like
What it’s like
What it’s like
Then you really might know what it's like
What it’s like
What it’s like
Then you really might know what it's like
What it’s like
What it’s like
Then you really might know what it's like

Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom
Who said he was in love
He said don't worry about a thing baby doll
I'm the man you've been dreamin' of
But three months later
He said he won't date her
Or return her call
And she sweared g** d***
If I find that man
I'm cuttin' off his b****
And then she heads for the clinic
And she gets some static
Walkin' through the doors
They call her a killer
And they call her a sinner
And they call her a whore

God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose
Then you really might know what it's like
What it’s like
What it’s like
Then you really might know what it's like
What it’s like
What it’s like
Then you really might know what it's like
What it’s like
What it’s like
Then you really might know what it's like

I've seen a rich man beg
I've seen a good man sin
I've seen a tough man cry
I've seen a loser win
And a sad man grin
I heard an honest man lie
I've seen the good side of bad
And the down side of up
And everything between
I licked the silver spoon
Drank from the golden cup
Smoked the finest green
I stroked the fattest dimes
At least a couple of times
Before I broke their heart
You know where it ends
Yo it usually depends
On where you start

I knew this kid named Max
He used to get fat stacks
Out on the corner with drugs
He liked to hang out late at night
Liked to get sh** faced
And keep pace with thugs
Until late one night
There was a big gun fight
Max lost his head
He pulled out his chrome .45
Talked some sh**
And wound up dead
Now his wife and his kids are caught
In the midst of all of his pain
You know it crumbles that way
At least that's what they say
When you play the game

God forbid you ever had to wake up to hear the news
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to lose
Then you really might know what it's like
What it’s like
What it’s like
Then you really might know what it's like
What it’s like
What it’s like
Then you really might know what it's like
What it’s like
To have to lose

Man that song is deep!

Thanks for stopping by, my dear Sateigdra!!! Yes, and it had a profound impact upon me the very first time I heard it. Furthermore, it serves as proof that our Heavenly Father speaks through more than just those who are considered acceptable in the sight of most "good Christians."

I'm glad I stopped by, I think I found you on one of fellow bloggers page, I'm not sure I think it may have been Tim Childs, or someone else, :-).

There is a scripture in Job that always comes to mind when I think of the ways God speaks to us.
"For God may speak in one way, or in another, Yet man does not perceive it." The scriptures that follow go on to talk about how God can seal His instructions in a person even when they are "slumbering on their beds...".

I have seen that God can speak to us in many many way's. Sometimes He can speak through different circumstances, and sometimes it can be through other believers, by song and or just spoken words. The idea is for us to perceive the message, if it is indeed from the Lord. This is why it is important to pray for our understanding to be opened up and for us to be able to comprehend Gods words.

I have sen many go on about God and have shared scriptures but is is evident they do not comprehend, even I pray for comprehension of Gods words, because I know the dangers of leaning on my own understanding, which I have seen many who claim to be Christians do.

I think when persons who claim to be Christians lean on their own understanding instead of trusting God with all their heart they muddy the water, and things can start to get confusing. God is not a God of confusion. When we come across something we cannot understand we can ask God to help us through His holy Spirit and also we can simply trust God. The righteous will never be put to shame, Romans 10:11, Romans 5:5. So "what ifs" are superfluous when it comes to trusting in God. I know some people who say, what if there is no heaven, what if God isn't real, if you trust in the Lord you will not be put to shame, if He said that it is so, it is so.

You are correct He speaks in many different way's, from surprising places sometimes. Great post brother, thanks for sharing.

I do not have the words to express just what a blessing what you were given to say to me is to me, my dear Sateirgdra. For I have been waiting almost 20 years to hear such coming from someone else. For it is what our Heavenly Father has been personally revealing to me, and without hearing it coming from anyone else, Satan has a lot of fun with hammering me with the possibility that everything I have received directly from our Heavenly Father is nothing more than a figment of my imagination. Be assured that I will go through what you have published on your "Fact, Fiction or Faith!," and if you are given the time, you might find what is contained in at least three chapters of Bittersweet Refinements to be rather interesting.

To God be the Glory brother. The enemy will try to get us to believe certain things are not of God. We got to pray when that happens though, just ask God plainly, "Is this of you Lord is this correct what I am thinking or am I leaning on my own understanding?" Even ask Him to help you to lean not on your own understanding, to guide you to follow His will. His will be done brother. :-)

I will check those three chapters out in Bittersweet Refinements as soon as I can, I usually get my reading in, in between the mornings and early afternoon. Right now it's after 8pm I'm heading off to do some other things but I will read those chapters as soon as I come on here again later. I'm glad you appreciated my comment. Just trust in the Lord brother. God bless you. :-)

Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Sateigdra!!! Please do not hesitate to tell me if you see something that I either messed up or could have done a better job of relaying. Alas, I know that He is not depending upon me to tell anyone anything, but I still hate it when I mess up.
