15,238.00

On the 12th of last March, I think a thought seemed to float through suggesting that there just might be a possibility of a rather significant pullback of all of the major stock exchanges in this world that could (how has that been for hedging so far?) reach catastrophic proportions when the [Dow Jones Industrial Average] reaches 15,238.00.  Now, I do not think that it will be quite as bad as it was in [1929], but it will certainly be bad enough for those caught in vulnerable financial situations.

No, I cannot say that I was given that from our Heavenly Father, but aside from the specific starting point, we are ripe for a major fall.  For as it was with real estate during the height of the [subprime loan orgy], so has it been with at least the American stock exchanges for the last couple of years.

Okay, there are some major differences.  For during the subprime loan orgy, large financial institutions were either offering or guaranteeing very large mortgages on such select properties as Mississippi swampland, with the only “improvements” being what was left of trailer houses deposited by [Hurricane Camille] almost 40 years earlier.  Whereas, what has been going on with the stock exchanges involves large financial institutions directly participating in the trading of grossly overpriced stocks.  For what does it matter if the Dow Jones Industrial Average keeps skyrocketing when the economic future of this country looks so very bright—despite how bad it looks for almost everywhere else?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, many (if not most) of the highly respected stock analysts keep insisting that many stocks are actually grossly underpriced in respect to their [Price/Earnings Ratio] and the prices of comparable stocks in the past, but just who are trading these stocks?

In far too many cases these days, the vast majority of stock trading is being done by institutions using [high frequency trading] computer programs, with algorithms that are set to make huge trades at a fraction of a millionth of a second when a stock price reaches a certain point, which may be as little as a penny up or down.  Hey, if you can sell a million shares of something at $346.34 a share after you have bought those million shares a second or so before at $346.33 a share, you have just made a cool $10,000.00 in a second or so, and those transactions go on several times a minute all day long!

Alas, some may say that I am being plumb unpatriotic.  For they want to believe that the reason why our stock exchanges appear to be doing so well is because of all of the confidence there is in this country being all that it can be for years upon years to come, but all it would take would be North Korea landing a nuclear-tipped missile in downtown Tokyo or Seoul for economic chaos to break out all over.

No, it would not take anything that drastic.  For when [The Fed] loses the will to keep pumping billions into the American economy through [Quantitative Easing], the rich boys and girls are going to take their stock market profits and lock the doors to their mansions behind them as quickly as they can.

Hey, it may even be something as simple as a bunch of big shots waking up one morning and wondering what they have been thinking the last couple of years. Thankfully, there are not nearly as many little people invested in stocks now as in days past, but the repercussions from the crashing stock prices will still be heavily felt far and wide.

Something Great and Awful

That address by President Obama was generally considered something great in the eyes of this world.  For he spoke as a parent grieving over the loss of so many who had their whole lives ahead of them.

On the other hand, in doing so he did something awful.  For he made it sound like it was the end of their existences.

No, this is not meant to take another shot at him for not really being a “Christian.”  For the way he was looking at the [Sandy Hook School massacre] is the way the vast majority of those in the Christian community look at it.

Yes, it is a very natural reaction, and the slaughter of innocents is indeed a great tragedy.  Nonetheless, we should be grieving over those left behind in the aftermath—not over those who no longer have to face anymore suffering in this world.

It would be different, of course, if there was a question of whether or not the souls of those slain children will be welcome to spend all of eternity with our Heavenly Father in His Kingdom of Heaven as heirs to all that is His in glory.  Be assured that there is not.  For our Heavenly Father does not delight in the eternal damnation of anyone [Ezekiel 18:32], and He is most certainly not going to reject those who appear to have not fulfilled all of the requirements of the various churches, which are mostly nothing more than rules made up by people without any authority to impose them [Matthew 19:14].

No, it was not only small children who were slain, but again, our Heavenly Father does not delight in the eternal damnation of anyone.  Therefore, we can have complete confidence in the absolute truth of the matter truly being that everyone who physically dies has been given plenty of opportunities to truly repent of their sins and accept Christ Jesus as their own personal Lord and Savior beforehand [Romans 1:18-20].

Alas, snakes do like to come out from their holes in the wake of great tragedies.  For here is the former pastor of a very prominent Southern Baptist church making it sound like we really can remove the Lord God Almighty from our schools and prevent Him from reaching the hearts and minds of our children.

Although, I must admit that I am in full agreement with Rev. Huckabee on the matter of gun control legislation.  For making it harder for those who should have a right to bear arms will not keep them out of the hands of those who should not.

Please note the distinction between those who should have a right to bear arms and those who should not.  For instead of seeking to pass a bunch of new laws, we should be doing all that we can to truly enforce the laws restricting firearm possession that already exist.  After all, was it not already illegal for a mentally-ill person to possess a firearm?  What about felons, and yet, do not hundreds (if not thousands) of them have a piece stuffed in their waistband at this very minute?

Yeah, if there were no firearms to even legally possess in this country, no felon could illegally possess one, but what nation in this world can honestly boast about their not being any firearms in the hands of the general population within their borders?  Besides, where there is a will, there is a way…

Still Serving Unsweetened Tea

No, this has nothing to do with dietary options.  Although, it is arguable that it really does.  For if partisan politics doesn’t take a backseat to truly addressing national concerns, there will be some very lean years waiting for America (the entire world, actually) after we dive off of the looming [fiscal cliff].

Alas, it has been quite appalling for me to see that nothing has really changed with the dust clearing from the last election.  For the [Tea-Partiers] keep screaming for the line against Obama to hold, and the Republican leadership in Congress appears to be listening.

Oh, but I get it now, and I am feeling rather stupid.  For many of those who are screaming the loudest against making any attempts at compromise with President Obama and the Democrats are actually instituting a brilliant plan to get tea removed from the political menu completely!

You see, it is looking like President Obama and the Democrats are serious about wanting to work with the Republicans in the best interest of us all, but unless the Republicans want to also play nice, nothing constructive will come to fruition.  So, when we fall off of the fiscal cliff right after the first of the year, everyone on both sides of the political spectrum will be getting a very rude awakening, and come the next election in two years, all of the Tea-Partiers will be swept out of office with great fanfare.  Hey, there may actually be dancing in the streets!

Therefore, the next time you run across a written article (or a spoken presentation) accusing President Obama and the Democratic leadership of planning for the concentration camp imprisonment of all prosperous white people who are not card-carrying communists, please resist the urge to tell them to just shut up.  For they are actually working in the best interest of everyone who wants a strong and prosperous America remaining the leader of the free world for the benefit of all of humanity everywhere.

Still Powerless

The first thing I would like to make as clear as possible is that I may not know what I am talking about.  For I certainly don’t have any facts or figures that would serve as admissible evidence in an officially-recognized court-of-law, but it makes perfect sense to me.

What I’m talking about is the thought that zipped through concerning there still being so many without any power in New Jersey and New York after Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy blew through almost a week ago.  For with threats to our power grid from terrorists and others being so well known for a while now, military bases should have dozens (if not hundreds) of large portable generators waiting to be deployed when needed.

No, these generators would not help with problems to the distribution of electricity due to water contamination from flooding at individual sites.  That is, other than also being outfitted with large capacity pumps, of course.  Nonetheless, there would not be nearly as much chaos still ensuing due to so very many fuel stations being still without power from the grid.  For these generators would be more than capable of powering a service station/convenience store or work together with several to provide power to offload crude oil to a refinery and power the refinery itself to keep fuel available in sufficient amounts.

Come on now, what if we were looking at months before the power grid could be restored?  Are you going to tell me that mobs would not be roaming the streets like a scene out of some apocalyptic movie?

Yes, having hundreds of large portable generators standing by would undoubtedly cost millions, but with daily cyber-attacks against the computerized systems that control our national power distribution grid already happening, do we have a choice?  May we elect some leaders with some sense.

He Hated F.D.R.

The following is a continuation of what was started with [None of the Above].

It is of my dad that I am referring to, and his political point-of-view is well worth examining.  For it is still shared by a fairly great many, and I am quite sure that he would be a very enthusiastic follower of the [American Tea Party Movement] if he was still physically alive.

Despite being physically born in 1920, it is arguable that he really wasn’t a child of the [Great Depression].  For he could not remember the area around [Blue Mound, Kansas] being severely affected by either the [1929 Stock Market Crash] or the drought that ushered in the [Dust Bowl Era].

In fact, my dad was able to secure a full-time union job as an oiler, which was someone who performed light maintenance upon the heavy equipment, with a natural gas pipeline company out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma when he was just 15 years-old.  Of course, he had to lie about his age, along with having the considerable weight of an uncle’s influence upon the company backing his application, but he was making really good money before graduating high school when millions around the country were looking to the government to literally save their bacon.

According to him, my dad was a very dutiful son, but he admitted that it was only on account of how much he loved playing varsity baseball and basketball that he did not ignore his parent’s letters that became more and more adamant in their insistence that he return home and get back in school as the time for the 1935 fall semester to begin approached.  For after actually seeing some of what lay beyond the Linn County line, not even thoughts of making trips to the sprawling metropolis of [Mound City] held quite the same appeal for him.

Ironically, he later turned down offers to play minor league baseball for the [Chicago Cubs] and the [St. Louis Cardinals], along with a full scholarship to play basketball for [Phog Allen] with the Kansas Jayhawks.  For the money he could then be making at the controls of a bulldozer far exceeded what was in those minor league baseball contracts, and he could not see how a college education could help him stay upright while gouging out a right-of-way across the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina—let alone keep from sinking in an east Texas swamp.

No, my dad never had to face the indignity of standing in a soup line.  Neither did any of the members of his extended family to the extent that I was made aware of.

My dad attributed that to their willingness to work, and he was quite vocal about claiming that any able-bodied man can find a job if they are willing to work.  In sharp contrast, he was also quite vocal about how much he resented having to pay taxes to feed the families of men who did not have enough gumption to get a job on their own, which was in reference to the [CCC].

No, my dad was no fan of the [New Deal], but it was being in the second wave to land on [Omaha Beach] under the withering fire of German gun emplacements that fueled his hatred of [President Franklin Delano Roosevelt] the most.  For he did not see where it was any of our business being in a war against an enemy who posed no immediate threat to our country at the time.

[Pearl Harbor]?  Well, aside from that being an attack by the Japanese, my dad believed that it was orchestrated by Roosevelt to get us involved in World War II before the best opportunities to profit from the manufacturing of military supplies passed.

Adding even more fuel to his fire was that he didn’t even have to go.  For he could have taken advantage of the draft exemption granted to only sons, but Blue Mound was way too small of a place to remain safe at home with his aging parents, quite comely wife and newborn daughter while the sons (and even many daughters) of neighbors were lining up to do their patriotic duty.

So, he answered the call to arms—only to face having to sign a release of liability to avoid a significant delay in returning home after the fighting was over in the [European Theatre].  For he had been seriously wounded at the start of the [Battle of the Bulge], and he was told that all with possible medical complications would have stay overseas for at least six months longer unless they signed a form that released the United States government from having to pay for any future medical treatments of wounds sustained in battle, along with any medical conditions related to them.  He signed the form.

Alas, is it not no wonder that he looked upon with horror as the reach of the federal government grew steadily longer over the years?  For even after giving all that he had in a war that he considered to be quite unnecessary, there was his very own government trying to take advantage of desperate desires to return home as soon as possible!

He begrudgingly came to accept that the New Deal was really not such a bad deal before his time as a part of this world came to an end.  I would think that it was on account of [Social Security] and [VA] disability checks keeping us from becoming completely destitute after he was told by several doctors that he had to quit working or face permanent paralysis and the [International Union of Operating Engineers] refusing to pay his pension because of not being old enough to draw one yet.  In all fairness, his application for workers compensation was vigorously fought against (and defeated) by the company he had been very loyally with for over 30 years because of his primary medical condition not being the result of a single accident, but even with both of those things notwithstanding, he always insisted that he was just getting back from the government what he had paid in to the Social Security fund and earned on numerous battlefields in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Germany.

All of that had a great influence upon the formation of my own political point-of-view.  Does any of it bring back memories from your childhood?  How about sounding rather consistent with what can still be heard coming from on top of many a soapbox these days?

Be assured that I have plenty of my own “pleasant” experiences with all that our federal government has to offer.  For in 2000, I had to come to grips with the fact that I could no longer hold any sort of job after being afflicted with [CFS] in 1993 (1992, actually) and trying to hang in there for the previous seven years.  My wife finally convinced me to apply for Social Security Disability, and that is when the “fun” really started.

I really should have been more prepared.  For if it was possible for the Social Security Administration to initially determine that my dad was not disabled with him having one full vertebrae in his lower back, and the discs on both sides, completely ground to dust after over 30 years of operating bulldozers and ditching machines, how could it have come as any great surprise to me that they would not accept feeling even exceedingly exhausted all of the time as being a debilitating condition without a fight?

Unlike what eventually happened with my dad, it took more than two tries to finally win a judgment in my favor.  In fact, it took four tries!

Well, at least I think it did.  Since we hired the only board-certified social security disability lawyer in southwest Missouri, I am not quite sure what really has happened.  That is, other than initially receiving checks for $23.50 a month, of course.

Oh, but wait, there’s more!  For if our household income exceeds $3,000.00 a month, no money from the Social Security Administration will be directly-deposited into our checking account, and we are required to send copies of my wife’s check stubs each month.

Speaking of such, we received a notification in the mail a couple of months ago that a new national income reporting phone line had been established.  Since this could save us both time and money, I was rather excited to give it a try, and I was quite disappointed when it did not work.  Not being able to find out what was going wrong, and receiving a letter informing us in no uncertain terms that actual copies of check stubs had to be sent in and that a fine could be accessed for failing to report monthly wages on time, was also quite disappointing to me.

Be assured that I really don’t have the words to describe what a joy it has been trying to deal with the good people of the Social Security Administration.  However, I can tell you that thinking about how many times we have received letters announcing that great increases in my monthly compensation amounts would be starting the next month—only to receive another letter a week or so later that said that we would be receiving nothing until further notice because of my wife’s anticipated wages exceeding the limit when she has never made more than $3,000.00 in a month does bring a tear to my eye.

Yes, it would seem that I have plenty of my own reasons for not losing focus on my dad’s political point-of-view, but our Heavenly Father allowing me to look at things through His eyes has drastically changed my perspective.  For I can now clearly see that He established governmental social welfare programs to make up for what we (as individuals and even as members of His church) far too often refuse to do on our own.

Now, this is not to say that these programs are doing the best that they can.  In fact, the way they are run would be laughable if it was not for how many people are being badly hurt by incompetence and corruption, but instead of wanting to throw the proverbial baby out with the bathwater by getting rid of programs that really could be a great blessing to us all, we should be looking for leaders who will get serious about truly fixing what is broken about all of the various levels of government in this country.

No, that is not something that Obama and Biden are interested in accomplishing, and the reforms that Romney and Ryan preach about will undoubtedly do more harm than good if they win the election.  Hopefully, the misery will end much sooner than later.

The Confederacy Lives!

Okay, I must admit that the headline to this piece is meant for dramatic effect.  For the heart of the [Confederacy] did not stop beating when the last shot in the Civil War was fired.

Be assured that I know this from personal experience.  For I was raised in an area where many refused to recognize the sovereignty of the United States federal government, and they were quite proud of the fact that [Cassville] served as the Confederate capitol of Missouri for a day or so after [Governor Claiborne Fox Jackson] called for the secession of the state in 1861.

On a more personal note, I was right in there with them until our Heavenly Father started changing me.  Quite honestly, I still find the thought of the Union being much more in the right rather irksome.

No, I have never been in favor of slavery.  I was, however, a very strong supporter of state’s rights, and now being more of a [Federalist] is another thing that doesn’t sit all that well with me.

I do believe that more would be more inclined toward federalism if we could elect a president who wanted the federal government to truly work with the states instead of just issue mandates that do not take regional wants and needs into account.  For I cannot imagine any state legislature refusing what the vast resources of the federal government could help with, and if anyone thinks that we would be better off with each state acting like its own sovereign entity, they have not thought things completely through.  After all, why should tax dollars from California help pay for the dredging of the Mississippi River when they have docks on the Pacific coast to send and receive their own trade goods?

Yeah, I suppose I should come down off of my soapbox for a little bit and get to what moved me (naturally-speaking, of course) to write about such.  For our own Republican candidate for the United States Senate, [Todd Akin], is not the only candidate in the general area causing the “stuff” to hit the proverbial fan on a national scale.  For the news has been breaking that [Jon Hubbard] considers the being of a slave in this country a blessing to those who were able to endure it.  Along with [Loy Mauch] calling President Abraham Lincoln a war criminal for committing premeditated murder on the United States Constitution.  As well as [Charlie Fuqua] insisting that disrespectful children should face the death penalty in a court of law.

No, the execution of disrespectful children was not an obscure clause in the Confederate Constitution, but it most definitely fits under the state’s rights heading.  Alas, Mr. Fuqua must have skipped over: So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.  For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. [James 2:12-13 KJV]

Just Satan

Militant Muslims are quite fond of referring to the United States of America as being the great Satan, and [here] is Mitt Romney giving them a reason to think about us as they do.  For he could be our next president, and he feels like we should not be ashamed of the actions of some of our citizens when they do awful things.

If you are not up to speed on what this is about, the “stuff” was about to hit the proverbial fan in the Muslim world over a trailer for [Innocence of Muslims] being on YouTube, and in the hope of appeasing the outraged, a staffer with the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt issued a statement.  Now, I was unable to find a copy of the original statement, but I saw the following on a televised [Anderson Cooper] segment: The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continued efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims…as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions we firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.

If you haven’t seen Innocence of Muslims yet, you better hurry.  For the trailer can still be seen [here], but I don’t expect it to be up too much longer.  In fact, I am rather shocked that YouTube has not taken it down already.

Oh yeah, you are in for a real treat when you see it.  For Innocence of Muslims looks like something produced by a couple of teenagers while on a spray paint-huffing binge that makes even some [Syfy movies] look Oscar-worthy!

Protecting Public Piety

By a wide margin last week, Missouri voters added what is being called [the prayer amendment] to the state constitution.  The reason why it is being called the prayer amendment is on account of it [guaranteeing] the right of citizens to make public expressions of their faith, which includes praying.  Another part of the amendment gives students the right to opt-out of classroom activities that conflict with their religious beliefs.

Oh yeah, liberals from all over are lining up to [challenge] the constitutionality of the amendment.  For we can’t be having prayer vigils being held in the hallways of our public schools while serious scientific learning should be taking place!

Alas, it is indeed a sad situation, but not for the reason that the more devoutly religious want to believe.  For no man-made law can prevent anyone from praying in the way that our Heavenly Father most wants to hear.  Neither can any amount of teaching on any subject lead any child too far away from Him.

Therefore, what are all of these “good Christians” really trying to accomplish?  Is it not that they are really wanting to protect the right to show anyone around just how pious they are?

No, what they are doing is most certainly not for our Heavenly Father’s glory.  In fact, they are doing more to diminish it than anything else.  For if you listen close enough, you will hear them (in effect) declaring that He needs them to be witnesses by praying out loud in public so that the lost can be saved, as well as (in effect) declaring that what He actually says is absolutely true cannot stand against the lies of the devil being presented as scientific fact.

Now, there would be great cause for concern if it all really did come down to His servants making a stand against evil.  For there has been a shadow across the land since the Garden of Eden, and it has been getting steadily darker with each passing day.

Oh, but what far too many (even in the Christian community) refuse to truly believe is that nothing has ever happened that wasn’t in accordance to our Heavenly Father’s will, and that He has always been with each and every one of us (even those who do not want to acknowledge His existence) every step of the way.

No, this is not to say that everyone will eventually be saved from facing eternal damnation.  For it would not fulfill our Heavenly Father’s purposes to force anyone to have to spend all of eternity with Him in His Kingdom of Heaven as an heir to all that is His in glory against their will.

In any event, be assured that the Lord God Almighty does not need anyone to do anything for Him.  In fact, He delights in taking a personal interest in every aspect of our daily lives in this world, and come Judgment Day, no one will be able to honestly say that they did not fully understand everything that He wanted them to because He will make sure of it Himself.

Tragically, that is not something that far too many in the Christian community want to hear—is it?  For they want to believe that He is depending upon them to finish the work in His absence that was started on the cross at Calvary.  For if He is not, what glory can there really be for them?

Yes, much of that sounds awfully harsh.  I am sorry, but the time has come for such.  For He has been making it abundantly clear for quite some time now that there is much about what has been presented in His name as being the truth that is quite contrary to what He actually says is absolutely true, and He has provided His Holy Scriptures as written confirmation of that.  Yet, the hardness of far too many hearts remains exceedingly great.

If you don’t believe it, please ask Him about it yourself.  Ah, but who is so deaf as the one who does not want to hear?

Politics in Connecticut

The political race here in CT. is heating up to a frenzy of who did what and didn't do what.  One day I read a tweet explaining the Bible's stance on how we should choose our nation's leaders.  So I asked the question, "How do you know who to vote for seeing as none of them are completely honest?"  The response I got was quoted from the scripture as saying, " A man who has a heart for God....who hates wrong doing."  It was something like that.  So I responded back with,

Some Kind of Special

Be assured that I had already been made well aware of the absolute truth of the matter truly being that I would not exist unless our Heavenly Father, who truly is the Lord God Almighty and the Creator of all that exists apart from Himself, had of wanted me to.  Yes, it is the same for everyone, but this is about me—okay?

Getting back to me, it was after receiving a phone call from a certain someone that it dawned on me that I really must be some kind of special—above and beyond being created by the One who created everyone else.  For that phone call was from Rush Limbaugh.

No, I do not consider the call actually being a recorded robo call to be of any less significance.  For my name was on the list, and not everyone can make such a claim.

Adding all the more to just how special I must be is that I have been also receiving emails from President Obama, Michelle Obama, Vice-President Joe Biden and James Carville, and you know what that means—don’t you?  Yes, that is exactly right.  It means that I have some of the most powerful politicians in this country vying for my attention!

It is certainly a good thing that I am so humble at heart.  For all of this could go to my head.

A Taxing Situation

Probably not to the political junkies, but to the rest of us, all of the back and forth over whether or not to extend the [Bush Era Tax Cuts] is taxing in every sense of the [word].  For President Obama wants to extend the cuts to everyone but those making over $250,000 a year, and the Republicans are not having any part in that.

Alas, it is just politics as usual, and in an election year with the White House being contested, it is understandable.  It is still taxing—especially to those who believe that what is in the best interest of the country should take precedence over what is in the best interest of a political party.

Oh, but that is exactly what each side is insisting that they are doing.  For the Democrats insist that the wealthy can afford to be of more help to our country during a time when more than ever are in need of government assistance on account of the economy being so bad while the Republicans insist that adding to the tax burden of the wealthy is a huge mistake because they are the ones who [create jobs], which is exactly what is needed to get out economy hitting on all cylinders again.

So, why not purpose a compromise where all monies spent on job creation are tax deductible?  Would this not appease both the liberal hunger for what the wealth have and the desire of the wealthy to maintain some semblance of control over every penny they can obtain by any and all means necessary?  That is, of course, unless too many of the wealthy have no plans for creating any more jobs.

No, such a proposal would never make it out of committee.  For it is too simple—not to mention rather transparent.

Besides, such a proposal would be at best merely a light bandage for a wound that needs some serious stitching.  For we would have more than enough money to balance the budget, pay off the national debt, make the American economy more vibrant than ever and fully fund all sorts of programs that would be of great benefit to all of the citizens of the United States of America without having to raise taxes a bit (in fact, taxes could probably be significantly lowered in a few years) if our leaders would just get serious about getting rid of as much corruption and incompetence as possible—starting with the federal government and continuing all the way down to the local level.

Yeah, like that would ever happen, but one can still dream.  There isn’t a tax on dreaming—is there?

Do Not Decline To Sign

I should have suspected that there was something rather nefarious about that ad campaign.  For it has been in heavy rotation during shows like [Judge Joe Brown] and [Judge Judy] in the afternoons in our area.

What was that?  How would I know about such a thing?  Well, um, my wife and her mother really enjoy those shows, and they have mentioned seeing that commercial a lot.

So, with my curiosity piqued, I endeavored to persevere until I got to the bottom of the mystery.  For as you just saw, the commercial does not give any indication of just what it is really about.

Lo and behold, the people behind it are those who run such places as payday and title loan businesses.  For [Missourians for Responsible Lending] is seeking to add the following proposal to the November ballot.

Shall Missouri law be amended to limit the annual rate of interest, fees, and finance charges for payday, title, installment, and consumer credit loans and prohibit such lenders from using other transactions to avoid the rate limit?

Nope, the members of [Missourians for Equal Credit Opportunity] do not want that happening. For being able to legally charge over 400% interest is really good for their business.

Keeping Him Plumb Out Of It

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

A lot has been made of the [separation of church and state] in the United States of America over the years.  I may be mistaken, but I am fairly sure that it started when the founding fathers of this country sought to avoid many of the problems that had plagued the governments of most (if not all) of the European countries down through the centuries, with the official recognition of one particular set of religious beliefs over all others appearing to directly lead to the fall of many of them.

Be assured that the making and breaking of governments in this world is something that our Heavenly Father does indeed do—regardless whether He is acknowledged or not.  For it is written: “To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his.  What he tears down cannot be rebuilt; those he imprisons cannot be released.  If he holds back the waters, there is drought; if he lets them loose, they devastate the land.  To him belong strength and insight; both deceived and deceiver are his.  He leads rulers away stripped and makes fools of judges.  He takes off the shackles put on by kings and ties a loincloth around their waist.  He leads priests away stripped and overthrows officials long established.  He silences the lips of trusted advisers and takes away the discernment of elders.  He pours contempt on nobles and disarms the mighty.  He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings utter darkness into the light.  He makes nations great, and destroys them; he enlarges nations, and disperses them.  He deprives the leaders of the earth of their reason; he makes them wander in a trackless waste.  They grope in darkness with no light; he makes them stagger like drunkards.”  [Job 12:13-25 NIV]

No, the United States of America was not established as a Christian nation, but this does not mean that our Heavenly Father did not have a hand in its birth, nor has had a hand in its growth.  For it is also written: Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. [Romans 13:1 NIV]

The key to understanding what is going on has to with the absolute truth of the matter truly being that this world was never meant to last but for a little while in comparison to the whole of eternity, and that what our Heavenly Father has been wanting to accomplish is for as many as will from amongst all of mankind to freely want to spend all of eternity with Him in His Kingdom of Heaven as heirs to all that is His in glory.  Subsequently, the establishment of an evil government works as well as a good one does toward accomplishing His purposes, and in many respects, it works better.  For the awful truth is that most of us only think of Him when things are going bad.

Ironically, liberals generally want what our Heavenly Father wants us to do, such as seeking to take care of the poor and needy, while refusing to even acknowledge His existence—let alone give Him credit for placing that desire in their hearts.  Equally as ironic, conservatives generally do not want to share anything with anybody while singing His praises for all to hear.

Alas, despite the insistence of many of the political pundits that the 2012 presidential election should only be about the languishing American economy, debates over the differences in their religious beliefs will undoubtedly become more heated as the opposing forces march toward the final showdown on November 6th.  For with President Obama being a member of the [United Church of Christ], along with being accused of secretly being a [Muslim], and the expected Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, being a [Mormon], there is certainly plenty for the lunatic fringe on both sides to get heated about.

However, do any of them truly believe that the way this country will go is in our Heavenly Father’s hands, and that it will be as it should be for us all in the end?  Quite sadly, most (both in and outside of the American Christian community) want to keep Him plumb out of it.

President Obama's Osama Ad

When I first heard about the Republican uproar over that ad, I thought that they were just playing politics with the truth by claiming that President Obama didn’t really have all that much to do with finally tracking down and killing Osama bin Laden.  When I actually saw the ad, I realized that the Republicans do have a point.  For there was no reason to take that shot at Mitt Romney other than playing a little politics, themselves.

Yes, ‘tis the season, and I hate it with every fiber of my being.  After all, wouldn’t it have been enough to just emphasize that our president stayed on the course that had been laid out before he took office, and that we can trust that he will not shy away from making tough decisions when the security of our nation is at stake without making any mention of Romney’s ever-changing positions?

Alas, oh how I wish playing politics wasn’t so acceptable in our society.  For it’s like saying, “Nothing personal—just business as usual,” when all of us should take the way our leaders conduct themselves very personally.

Standing On Shaky Ground

From what I understand of Florida’s [Stand Your Ground] law, it allows someone to use deadly force whenever they feel threatened, regardless of where they are.  Being a self-confessed gun nut, whose neck has glowed (both literally and figuratively) with a particularly bright shade of red at times, I like it.  For I have always had a serious problem with having to wait until the bad guy is actually in my house before I can take measures to protect my family and our property, and woe be it unto me if they were to get back outside before expiring.

No, that doesn’t sound like a very “Christian” attitude, but it’s the truth.  For as I have been quite forthcoming about on many an occasion, our Heavenly Father has left far too much of “me” intact for my comfort.

On the other hand, He has made it abundantly clear unto me that there are times when turn the other cheek doesn’t apply, and if we will listen, He will tell us when those times are.  In other words, none of us has to depend upon our own understanding of His Holy Scriptures, nor the teaching of others not so unlike ourselves, to know what to do.

Oh, but after the senseless slaying of [Trayvon Martin], some adjustments to the Florida law is most definitely needed.  For regular people should be held to at least close to the same standard as police officers in determining whether the use (or attempted use) of deadly force was warranted—especially when an incident happened on neutral ground.

Alas, I really hate it when some idiot ruins a good thing for the rest of us.  For the murder (yeah, I said it) of Trayvon has the lily-livered liberals screaming about rednecks wanting a return to frontier justice, which will undoubtedly lead to another big push to take away our right to bear arms.  It’s a good thing it’s an election year (naturally-speaking, of course).

Déjà Vu, Vietnam!

The title to this piece is meant as a tip of the hat to [Good Morning, Vietnam].  Yeah, it is confusing to me, as well.

Nonetheless, it shouldn’t be confusing to anyone that Afghanistan has become Vietnam all over again for us.  For the vicious cycle of secure--withdraw--re-secure of territory keeps being repeated at great cost to both lives and funds.

I suppose I still have some blind patriotism left in me.  For I do not consider Vietnam as being a lost war, but it sure was a humiliating mistake.  For after all of the napalm and agent orange had cleared from the air, even someone as conservatively cross-eyed as I used to be could see that many in the south had been playing one side against the other, and that the North Vietnamese weren’t about to take their marching orders from the Soviet Union—let alone communist China.

Hence, another Vietnam all over again in Afghanistan thing.  For President Karzai has been screaming for us to get out of his country in an effort to appease the Taliban, and since we can’t just kill them all, it is time to leave before the getting’ gets worse.

Sorry, some of “me” came out in that last part.  For I know that it would not be good for us to kill everyone in the region without caring about who was what, but the longer we leave our troops there as target practice for the enemy, who may have been considered friends just the day before, the more we will be hearing about massacres of innocents by the hands of those who were once innocent themselves.

Oh, and brace yourself for what will happen if SSgt. Bales is not quickly (we are talking about in less than a month here) sentenced to death, which would be a great tragedy in and of itself—regardless of how long it takes.  For there is not a doubt in my mind that he was not at all in control of his actions, but try telling that to a Afghanistan tribesman, who has grew up with blood for blood being a given.

No, I don’t think we will have to wait for a verdict.  For spiriting Bales out of the country is another decision that the ones who ran the show in Vietnam could appreciate.

Martin Bahir on Sarah Palin

Link: [On MSNBC]

What is even more horrifying to me is that there are still thousands upon thousands (if not millions upon millions) who hang on her every word in the hope of learning how to save our country from the evils of liberalism.  Why?  Seriously, would someone please help me understand?
