After going around and around with another who doesn’t really want to believe that our Heavenly Father still seeks to directly communicate with us, I asked again, “How do you describe what something looks like to someone who has been blind their entire life?” Almost immediately, it was brought to my attention (again) that this was not really the case. For our Creator has been talking to all of us since being in the womb, and it is only because of not recognizing His voice that most do not hear Him.
Hence, the title of this piece. For what we are dealing with here is an inability to see the forest for the trees!
Aside from that conversation, which really did take place between our Heavenly Father and me, another example of Him talking to me has to do with the publishing of this piece at this time. For I am easily distracted—regardless of whether by shiny objects or not, and what has been distracting me lately is trying to learn how to write computer programming codes. You know, like HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS and several other very foreign languages to me.
Okay, maybe you don’t know, but the point is that I was given the basis for this piece long before any thought of starting this site came to mind. Therefore, it should have been published long before now, but I put it on the backburner while pursuing another interest. To make this not so short story a little shorter, I hit a significant roadblock while trying to learn about CSS coding, and I was then informed that I really should be taking care of the more important business at hand.

No, I did not hear a thundering voice coming out of the heavens. In fact, I didn’t even hear what could be described as a whisper on the wind. For what I “heard” was indistinguishable from my own thoughts, except for what was being “said.”
Did you get the not being able to see the forest for the trees analogy now? For far too many are expecting to hear something different than what they have been hearing all along.
Yes, I may very well be plumb nuts. For both conversations could have just been figments of my imagination. After all, why would He have given us the minds that He did if He was going to do much of our thinking for us?
Ah, but where do we want to draw the line between where He ends and we begin? Tragically, far too many “Christians” want to believe that they really are all on their own. For what glory can there be for them if it is actually our Heavenly Father who is giving them all of those brilliant ideas?
Yes, a very simple way of getting their attention would be to just stop giving them brilliant ideas. For after a period of time when nothing goes right, only an absolute fool would not start wondering what is going on.
Of course, there is an even more sure-fire way of getting someone's attention, which Moses, Jonah and the Apostle Paul know a thing or two about. For the very sad reality of far too many situations is that when it is wondered what is going on, there is no expectation of ever getting an answer.
It really costs our Heavenly Father when He chooses to strike someone down with a blinding light, however. For the whole point of us existing in this world for the amount of time that we are required to is to give Him opportunities to receive a very special kind of love from us, which involves giving Him the full benefit of our considerable doubts, and when He makes things so obvious, it costs Him the full measure of the glory that He so richly deserves to receive from each and every one of us.
No, this is not to say that He is reluctant to do whatever it takes to have a very close and personal relationship with us, but it really shouldn’t have to come to that. For if we would just start paying close attention to EVERYTHING floating around in our heads, it should become obvious enough fairly soon that we are not alone in our thoughts.
Nonetheless, let us not take too much for granted. For the devil and his demons are also allowed to mess with our heads at times, which is more often than not in most cases, and this is where a great familiarity with what is contained in our Heavenly Father’s Holy Bible is most helpful. For His Holy Scriptures were given to serve as written confirmation of what He Himself wants to personally reveal unto us, and what He may tell someone directly will not contradict what He had placed into written form for our benefit long ago. Whereas, what we may hear from Satan and his horde of rogue angels will, and it won’t always be obvious, neither!
Just to be clear, be assured that our Heavenly Father will not always be quoting Scripture in King James’ English. Granted, He may to some for a time, in order to make it easier for them to truly hear Him, but if He does for you as He has for me, it should not be long before you come to realize that the little voice that has been in the back of your head your entire life, telling you that you would do well to do this or not do that, has been His.
Yeah, I undoubtedly sound like a broken player stuck on repeating the wrong song over and over and over again to those who do not want to hear it. For what is being said here is no different from what has been said in [Chapter 11], [Chapter 12] and [Chapter 13] of [Bittersweet Refinements], along with several other articles that have published here and there.
There is, however, one more point that needs to be made again. For why would anyone want to spend all of eternity with our Heavenly Father if they never really wanted to have all that much to do with Him in this life?

Great Post! I couldn't have said it better myself.
I too don't hear God with thunder voice or even a small still voice all the time. Sometimes it's more of an impression on my spirit from the Spirit that this is the way I should or should not go.
And the other thing I totally agree with is that when things are not going right, then yes we need to get the clue to ask, "What's happening?" or 'what's going on Lord?"
And yes, we do need to be more aware of what's happening above and around our heads, especially when it seems to be something strange or out of the ordinary of what we would expect normally, for above our heads and around us is where the spiritual warfare takes place. (in the heavenlies)
I love your statement of what makes people think if they don't want to deal with God here on earth, then what makes them think He will want to deal with them in the end, even though He will
Jesus "I don't know you."
Grace
I'm still not sure where I fit into the cessationist/continualist standpoint. To me, Scripture is sufficient, and to go beyond risks getting into areas like the sticky Roman Catholic sanddbox of adding things that you like (regardless of it they contradict scripture, as in the case with the RCC).
When you have had these conversations, I'd be curious: have you ever tried the following. Have you ever said, out loud, "In the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, Holy one of God, tell me your name", what would you hear in response?
Thank you so very much for the encouragement, my dear Grace!!! Even worse, are those who have recognized His voice, but do not think that it is such a big deal.
Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lavender Darwin!!! Please be assured that I do not want to believe that this is the way you actually feel, but are you not, in effect, saying that you do not really need to have a very close and personal relationship with Christ Jesus because the book about Him is good enough for you?
As in regards to trying to get a demon to tell me his name, none of the ones assigned to me have saw fit to do so. I have had the name of Legion float through on several occasions, but I am perfectly willing to accept that this was more than likely just one of my own thoughts. I do know, for certain, that the devil himself has paid me a personal visit or two.
On a related note, years ago, I tried to command (in Jesus' name, of course) a very prominent silhouette in the room with me to go away and leave me alone, but all I got out of that exchange was a big smile. Since his presence was only bothering me, no damage was done, however. In fact, none of my more direct demonic encounters have resulted in anything more than some very valuable personal experience with a matter that most in the Christian community have no idea about, but this is not to say that many of them were not absolutely terrifying at the time.
